Airport liable after failing to provide wheelchair for passenger

An elderly man has been awarded £15,000 after he fell over at an airport where staff had failed to provide him with a wheelchair.

The man was 79 at the time of the incident and had reduced mobility. He had arranged for the airport to provide him with a wheelchair as part of the booking process.

However, when he flew in with his carer he was told by an employee to use a walking frame.

The man told the employee that he could only walk a short distance with a walking frame. The employee said it was only a short distance and he would be safe.

However, as the man walked he fell on to his left side injuring his shoulder, spine and hip.

His vision was affected, and he experienced headaches. He was also sore on the left-hand side of his body and his left hip had become weaker.

He took legal action against the airport claiming it was negligent in failing to provide a wheelchair as had previously been arranged.

The airport admitted liability and agreed to an out-of-court settlement of £15,000.
